The Value of a Member
~Author Unknown~

Ten little members standing in a line,
One disliked the president, then there were nine.
Nine ambitious members offered to work late,
One forgot her promise, then there were eight.
Eight creative members and ideas as good as heaven,
One lost enthusiasm, and then there were seven.
Seven loyal members got into a fix,
They quarreled over programs, and then there were six.
Six members remained with spirit and drive,
One moved away, then there were five.
Five steadfast members who never disagreed,
'Til one complained of meetings, and then there were three.
Three eager members!  What do they do?
One got discouraged, and then there were two.
Two lovely members, our rhyme is almost done,
One joined a bridge club, and then there was one.
One faithful member was feeling blue,
Met with a neighbor, and then there were two.
Two earnest members, eache enrolled one more,
Doubling their number and then there were four.
Four determined members just could not wait,
'Til each won another and then there eight.
Eight excited members signed up sixteen more,
In another six verses there will be a thousand and twenty four!

Friends
~Eleanor Roosevelt~

Friends, you and me...
You brought another friend, and then there were three.
We started our group, our circle of friends
And like that circle, there is no beginning or end.

God's Gifts
~Author Unknown~

I asked God for water,
He gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower,
He gave me a garden.
I asked God for a tree,
He gave me a forest.
I asked God for a friend,
He gave me YOU.

For No One Knows What Tomorrow May Bring
by David Willems

You must allow youself to LAUGH
And not only to laugh, but to laugh HARDER, LOUDER
and LONGER
Than you ever have before.
You must allow yourself to SMILE
And to smile WIDER, STROMGER and MORE OFTEN
Than you ever have before.
When you EAT, you must TASTE your food.
When you BREATHE, breathe DEEPLY.
When you HUG, KISS or SHAKE HANDS
Do it FIRMLY and with COMPASSION
And when you say I LOVE YOU...
MEAN IT.
It is your LIFE and now you must LIVE it
For that is the greatest HONOR you can give to anyone
Who never had a chance.

As into another year we go,
We hope in all you do,
The best of success all shall know,
When working for Phi Mu.
We're up and alive for anything, To work with all our might,
And make this old USA ring
With cheers for Rose and White.

Marion Wilkinson
The Aglaia, November 1908

In our chain of years at college
Every link is but a day
Each is fastened to the other
In a strong and steady way.

Each is bound by golden friendships
Which are tied by memories true
Added to the rings of fancies
by the thoughts of our Phi Mu.

So when our whole chain is finished
May it join and bind the ends
And be firmly held together
By this precious thought of friends.

Virginia Fugh, Upsilon
The Aglaia, November 1926

When the golden sunset gilds the west
And the mountains are bathed in light;
As each tir'd creatureseeks his rest,
And softly falls the curtain of night,
The tender thought of three glowing stars,
And the message of faith they bring
Removes from my vision all that mars
And surrounds me with bonds that cling.
May these three shing stars guide me-
Who can tell to what supreme power?
For the golden bond will faithful be
And Love will guide me every hour.

Emily Lobdell, Beta Alpha
The Aglaia, November 1927
